It's been a hot minute since I've made a post or e It's been a hot minute since I've made a post or even really got behind the keyboard to post a review. I felt like I needed a break but honestly it came down to lack of inspiration. Some weeks I'm just feeling it but the last few have been somewhat of a struggle to find my way.

I'm so happy that "The Gathering" @smwsamerica tasting popped up at @jackroseindc when it did because it reminded me why I enjoy this hobby. Getting a chance to enjoy whisky with others, share notes, share stories and experiences. All over a nice dram just makes the night that much better.

Over the course of the night we sampled six different whiskeys (only 5 reviews posted since I already owned the Ardnamurchan on offer). Some from distilleries I'm very familiar with and others, not so much.

It was fun getting to listen to Pip himself talk about the early days of SMWS. The first few casks selected, the random inquires to join their club. Reading through the Maverick will give you the history but hearing the stories in person made my night. I was on cloud nine the rest of the week!

Of course the whisky was amazing too! Too many for a single post here but full notes are posted on my website #linkinbio but only one bottle ended up in my cart the following day.

Cheers to Pip and 40 years of SMWS! 🥃
My extended review break was just what I needed. E My extended review break was just what I needed. Enjoying the weather (albeit incredibly muggy this summer in DC), enjoying some much-needed and refreshing cocktails, and digging through the pile of samples I've been neglecting.

Sometimes you just need a break to get back to enjoying the whisk(e)y instead of directing every pour!

My full review of the Blanton's Gold can be found on my website and over on @maltrunners #linkinbio

Quick notes below!

-

Nose: Lacking fruit! (compared to Stagg/BT) Honey Nut Cheerios, raisin bran. Cinnamon coasted apple peels. Fig cookies. Faint leather aroma.

Palate: Texturally more enjoyable than regular Blanton's. Full of baking spices - cardamom, heavy clove, and cassia cinnamon.

Finish: Bitter citrus pith. Burnt toffee, molasses cookies, and ginger snaps. Short finish and a tad more youthful grains come out.

Was fun to compare side-by-side with a standard bottle of Blanton's. The textural differences, the lack of that cherry note I've found in other Buffalo Trace products, and the emphasis on baking spices. Maybe that metal shell of Warehouse H really does change their whiskey!

A brief interruption to my typical review schedule A brief interruption to my typical review schedule and throwing this one out early as myself and the other @maltrunners crew reviewed this bottle collectively as our first group review!

This 24 Year Old Linwood was selected by Hongniang Wine and Spirits (HNWS) a wonderful little whisky shop in Taiwan.

My full review can be found on my website. More tasting notes and scores from Malt Runners can be found there and I'll link to it in my bio as well. #linkinbio

Nose: Fragrant white wine aromas. Soft oak tannins. White grapes, sultanas, and fresh apricots. Light floral honey, edible flowers, and bee pollen. It's springtime in a glass.

Palate: The fruits turn a touch tropical on the palate. Lychee, mango, grilled pineapple. More distinct tobacco flavors along with some baking spices. Star anise, peppercorn, smoked paprika, toasted cloves, cinnamon.

Finish: Oaky finish with remnants still of those fruity flavors. Pear juice, honeycomb, and sharp greek yogurt. Overnight oats with apples and cinnamon. Breakfast-like character.

I am kind of in love with this whisky. The more bold, youthful Linkwoods that I’ve had previously were fantastic bottles but this is elevated to another level. The fruit is so enticing and forms a wide swath of flavor profiles from delicate pear juice to a rich oatmeal raisin cookie.

From nose to finish, I have nothing to complain about. Time has softened and homogenized the flavors and my experience has been phenomenal.
Still on a review break but couldn't help myself a Still on a review break but couldn't help myself and crack into this lovely bottle from @hunterlaingwhisky courtesy of @klwines. The new macro lens really takes some lovely photos! 📸
