Today's review is a @5sentidosagave bottle of Jaba Today's review is a @5sentidosagave bottle of Jabalí picked by @elementalspirits.co. You can find full notes on my website or r/mezcal #linkinbio

Tough one to write out as I didn't enjoy it as much as other pure Jabalí batches I've had in the past.

Botanical and floral nose with lavender potpourri notes. Eucalyptus and aloe vera. Green wood, conifer trees, pine cones. Reminiscent of some gins I really enjoy.

On the palate unfortunately it brings a lot of cleaning detergent-like flavors and that's a big detractor for me. Stainless steel, laundry soap, dryer sheets. Aspartame sweetness and kiwi rind.

I know how Jabalí is difficult to distill and produces soapy flavors at times. I almost want to compare this one to a sotol I've previously tasted from La Higuera. Unfortunately, this one is a pass for me. If not for the antiseptic/detergent flavors, I think a botanical and floral mezcal would be a hit.
Back to back Mezcalosfera sample reviews from @mez Back to back Mezcalosfera sample reviews from @mezcaloteca. Monochromatic photo does not accurately portray the vivid flavors of this mezcal.

Another really intriguing spirit and again a really fun and unique profile. Refrescador mezcal hits in the oddest and interesting of ways.

This bottle started out smelling super fruity like gummy bears only to do a 180° and develop in the glass into a savory, roasted agave character.

Some of the more interesting flavor notes I pulled were vinegar, oyster sauce, and dried anchovies. Chalk, slate, graphite - like an elementary school pencil case. Caramelized sweet potatoes and onion jam over an omelet with a chive garnish.

Delicious and expressive spirit though I feel like it will be a mood dependant glass. Should pair well with food or citrus forward cocktails.

This Espadín from Juan Garcia and bottled by @mez This Espadín from Juan Garcia and bottled by @mezcaloteca is now one of my favorites.

It's briny, sour, ceviche in a glass. Wet tobacco, fresh lumber, full of green herbaceous elements. Mineral-rich water with savory sesame oil and seaweed.

Espadín seems so unassuming and then you get floored with a bottle as special as this one.

Today's review is a local selection of Old Foreste Today's review is a local selection of Old Forester Barrel Strength Bourbon.

This is a little over 4 years old and bottled at 62.5%. Fairly young and quite a hefty proof!

Full notes can be found on my website #linkinbio or on r/bourbon.

N - vanilla, burnt caramel, and toasted marshmallows. Nutmeg and peppercorn with water bringing out citrus and clove.

P - quite tannic and rather hot! Barrel aged vanilla extract and cinnamon Red Hots. Dried ginger and tobacco. Mineral water, black coffee, herbal tea.

F - astringent finish. Dark cocoa powder, tobacco, and leather. Sugar dates. Over toasted spices of nutmeg, peppercorn, and a touch of anise.

There's a flavorful spirit hiding under the oak but at this age and proof you just simply cannot taste it. Water helps bring out the fruit notes thankfully. For the money I'd rather buy other bottles unfortunately.
