Fine Wine and Good Spirits Selection
Quick review of a pair of Teeling single cask selections. I received samples of these and decided to side by side these reviews. Fine Wine and Good Spirits is the chain of Pennsylvania state run stores.
I rested this for a brief 5 minutes in a Túath Irish whisky glass and did not add any water. Deep copper to Burnished in color with thick legs in the glass.
Honey and brown sugar on the nose. A cherry floral note. Fresh green grasses. Bitter and sour green apple skins. Cereal grains. Hint of fresh black pepper.
Not at all delicate for an Irish whisky. Very baking spice forward with cinnamon and clove notes. Heavy dehydrated fruit flavors. Loads of apple and pear but more candy sweet than juice. It’s like Apple gushers burst of flavor.
The candy sweetness falls away for a rich spice forward finish. Ginger snap crust flavors with an intense wave of spicy heat. That ginger note turned into browned butter and a pear skin mild bitterness. A nice balance from the sweet palate.
This was excellent from start to finish. Really enjoyed the sweet/tart on the palate and that bold ginger spice on the finish. I haven’t had much Calvados but this finish really excelled well to me. It made that delicate floral Irish whisky a tad bolder with a lot of fresh and dehydrated fruit flavors. A definite buy from me.
